When a patient comes to our office for the first time, it’s usually a longer visit. We’ll perform an exam and obtain a thorough history including surgeries, accidents, and medications. We’ll also ask a few important questions: Is the issue just some minor tightness, or is it a more severe problem where it’s hard to even get up in the morning? Is the patient experiencing constant pain? What kind of treatment have they had previously, and was it helpful? All of these factors are taken into account to help us create a treatment plan that suits the patient’s needs and goals.
One of the biggest complaints we hear is whenever patients have to come back for a second visit before they receive treatment. When you’re in pain, the last thing you want to do is continue to put off relief for another day. That’s why we prefer to provide treatment on the first visit, if possible. As long as no additional testing or imaging is needed, we’ll be able to give you some immediate relief. We try to give some modalities to get the pain level down and get you more mobile. You should always have something to take home with you so you can at least start to feel somewhat better.
Additionally, we don’t give patients the typical chiropractic treatment plan involving several weeks of treatment right off the bat. We instead schedule a single week of three to four visits at a time to see how the patient is responding. That way, we can make any tweaks to the treatment plan if necessary to make sure it’s as effective as possible.
After the initial examination and treatment plan, we usually do a re-exam after a few visits. We also closely monitor progress by giving an outcome assessment form. It has basic questions like how the pain is affecting daily living, how range of motion has improved, and how functionality has increased. If the patient notices that they’re now able to do tasks like folding laundry, carrying their children, or climbing stairs, we’ll get an idea that the treatment plan is working.
One of the unique aspects of our clinic is the comprehensive variety of services we offer. We might decide that a patient will benefit most from physical therapy provided by Ryan, Holly, or Megan. Since they’re all under the same roof, they can stop by and give informed suggestions about the patient’s situation.
Dr. Riley also has a network of referrals within the Tulsa area in case the issue is more severe. If the patient requires the expertise of a neurosurgeon or orthopedic specialist, we’ll refer them to the most suitable qualified professional.
Most importantly, we stay in constant communication with you throughout the entire course of treatment. We’re dedicated to making sure you have the tools you need to get better. To learn more, contact us online or give us a call at (918) 743-3737.
