We often talk about sports injuries and work related injuries due to cumulative trauma from being seated all day long. Unfortunately, we also see a fair amount of patients who have gone through some kind of auto accident. These types of injuries are typically going to be some form of soft tissue, muscle, or ligament sprain/strain. If you have suffered from an auto accident, there are plenty of effective treatment options available.
Just like a sprained ankle from a sports injury, there’s going to be inflammation and limited mobility from an accident injury. It’s also obviously going to be very painful. If you weren’t anticipating the accident, you might be more likely to have a ligament injury. If you had a chance to brace yourself for impact, then there’s probably going to be more soft tissue, muscle, and fascia injuries.
The people in my billing department know the ins and outs about how challenging these types of cases can be. Sadly, whenever someone is involved in an accident like this, there’s a lot of uncertainty about what to do. Of course, patients are concerned about getting better. We need to make a determination of what injuries were sustained related to the accident. Then we can make appropriate recommendations and begin treating the patient so they can get better as quickly as possible. You simply don’t have the time and luxury to go into the doctor’s office several times a week.
When it comes to sprain/strain injuries as a result of an accident, nine times out of ten, patients can be reassured that they won’t have to deal with the issue for the rest of their life. The pain and limited range of motion will typically get better with some conservative care. Our primary goal is to get patients better quickly so they can get back to doing the normal daily activities that they’re used to doing.
As a consequence of suffering through an auto accident, you start to develop limitations. Maybe you’re not able to play with your kids anymore. You might be having a difficult time getting in and out of your vehicle. Functionally, we need to take a look at those things that you find challenging. With a proper examination and evaluation, we can make recommendations to get you back to where you used to be.
The neat thing about this clinic, as we’ve spoken about in the past, is that we have many options available in our clinical toolbox. It could be chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, exercise, or rehab. As I talked about in another post, we’ve made a recent addition with an internal medicine physician. He can do an evaluation if need be, and he can even potentially recommend medication if it’s a suitable option for the patient. If we see that an MRI or X-ray is indicated for someone, we will refer them out. There are also physicians who will refer patients to us because we specialize in soft tissue injuries.
We’re able to effectively and efficiently manage soft tissue cases within the confines our our clinic. We get patients better as quickly as we possibly can. That way, they can get back to doing normal daily activities again. People who suffer from an auto accident already have enough issues to deal with when it comes to getting their vehicle fixed. We want to be the advocate to help them receive the care that they need.
If you’ve suffered from an auto accident and you’d like to investigate the options available to you, contact us online or give us a call at (918) 743-3737.
