Prattville Therapeutic Modalities

When most people think chiropractor, they think about spinal manipulation — someone who’ll crack your back. And they’re right, but that’s just one of several treatment modalities we use for our chiropractic patients.

That’s because patients frequently come to us in pain and these other therapeutic modalities — EMS, Ultrasound, and hot and cold therapies — all help reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation and they help speed healing. Watch the video and scroll down to learn more.

EMS is an abbreviation for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. We apply electrical stimulation to the muscles — don’t worry it feels good! — as a means of:

  • increasing blood flow to muscles,
  • increasing range of motion,
  • increasing muscle strength in some cases, and
  • enhancing muscle endurance.

But mostly, we use EMS for its pain management attributes — EMS really helps soothe and heal muscle related pain, such as spastic muscle, sore muscles or tight muscles, and this is a great therapy for before and after spinal manipulation.

Ultrasound Therapy is used to gently heat and increase blood flow to the treated area. The thermal affects produced by the sound waves speeds healing and reduces inflammation. Also, the ultrasound vibration helps to stimulate cell membranes and encourages repairing effects of cells in inflamed areas.

The combined effect from the heating and vibration helps reduce swelling, increases blood flow, and decreases pain, stiffness, and spasms. Again, this is a great therapy to use in conjunction with chiropractic manipulations and other forms of physical therapy.

Hot and Cold Therapy involves icing and then heating an injured area. The ice reduces inflammation and swelling. The heat soothes muscles and encourages blood flow. Used together, both therapies become more effective and you get the best of both modalities. Again, this is part of chiropractic care and is a therapy we use to help our patients recover from pain and injury.

Your pain ends here

Many of our patients have already tried chiropractic therapy, physical therapy, yoga, etc. elsewhere and haven’t found relief. But, they find relief from their pain with us. Their 5-star reviews tell the story.

Let us help you the same way we’ve helped them and thousands like them.
