We’re delighted Doctor Sidney Shibley has joined our Tulsa Spine and Rehab Chiropractic Team. Movement burns deep inside her—as you will discover.
Dr. Shibley was raised in nearby Sapulpa where she graduated high school before earning a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Sports Science at The University of Tulsa. Science was a shift from her original business degree plan.
“I took a nutrition course just for fun,” she says. “I wanted to dive more into the health and wellness aspect. I’ve always been into fitness and health and wellness, and I love staying active. I grew up a competitive dancer, but after taking that nutrition course, I discovered I liked that side of science. And I wondered, what else can this side of science offer me?”
“After taking an undergrad kinesiology course, I discovered I like seeing how the body works and how it moves. And so I decided to dive deeper into it,” Dr. Shibley adds.
Learning more about that side of science ultimately led to her Doctor of Chiropractic and Master of Science in Strength and Human Performance from Parker College in Dallas. But, she says where it really began was competitive dance—a passion of hers since age two.
“My cousin owned a dance studio in Sapulpa, so I grew up a competitive dancer,” Dr. Shibley says. “I started dancing at two and competing when I was about six. Once I got into high school, I joined the high school dance team and won state all four years I was there. And then when I went on to college, I joined the dance team there.”
30-35 hours a week of school and studio dance puts stress and strain on the body which led her to weekly Chiropractic sessions.
“If I missed a week, I could definitely tell the difference in my mobility,” Dr. Shibley says.
One day, her Chiropractor, a family friend, said, “You’ve seen the benefits yourself. So if that’s something you think that you want to provide to other people and it’s something you have a passion for…”
“If I could have a career also where I’m helping people feel their best every single day and experiencing benefits like I experienced throughout my entire life, then I knew that that would be something that I would love doing for the rest of my life,” she adds.
That’s exactly what she’s found with Tulsa Spine and Rehab’s integrated approach to wellness.
“I like how Tulsa Spine and Rehab prioritizes the rehab also, and not just the adjustment itself,” Dr. Shibley says. “I think the adjustments in chiropractic are great, but it’s not the only tool in our toolbox. I believe it’s important to encourage movement and exercise because that’s what’s going to help with longevity.”
Dr. Shibley finds satisfaction in inspiring people to live the healthiest versions of themselves and prioritize their health. That makes her a perfect fit for the Tulsa Spine and Rehab team.
“Are you going to be able to play with your kids, your grandkids? It’s more the longevity aspect than the here-and-now aspect,” she says. “I want to encourage movement and healthy choices and make sure that people understand that it’s not just all about how you feel day to day, but also how you’re going to feel 30 years from now.”
