Tanner Johnson, our Active Therapy Specialist at Tulsa Spine and Rehab, brings a degree in nutrition from Oklahoma State as well as certificates in strength and conditioning to help our clients.
Prior to joining Tulsa Spine and Rehab, he was a strength and conditioning coach for a local lacrosse club. However, Tanner grew tired of seeing the athletes he worked with being handed off to someone else following an injury.
“When a position with Tulsa Spine and Rehab opened up, and I dove right in, using my back ground to help clients get out of pain—that’s the name of the game,” Tanner says.
“I just love working with people,” Tanner says. “It was something that made sense for me and was something I was obviously passionate about personally.”
Tanner sees every client as unique in their own right.
“Let’s say they are having lower back pain, we go through our assessment, find out what is generating pain, use exercise to turn on the correct muscles,” he says. “My strength & conditioning experience enables me to utilize functional exercises to help clients correct muscle imbalances, which in turn improves the musculoskeletal system’s ability to maintain position, thereby preventing some injuries from recurring.”
He finds helping patients get out of pain to be pretty incentivizing and tells clients that his goal is to see them 12 times. “And then, I never want to see them again because we give them the ability to build up strength and get out of the aches and pains for good.”
Tanner enjoys being a member of the Tulsa Spine and Rehab team because, he says, “it’s all about serving the client, which makes me happy to be there and helping.”
“I get a deep sense of satisfaction helping someone who has never experienced pain like this before, and then the next day they’re feeling better,” he says. “Their day has been made, and I was a small part of that.”
