Dr. Riley:
This drill is called active straight leg raise with pattern assistance. This is a great drill to work on hip flexion, teaches your brain how to flex properly throughout your hips. Also, it’s a good safe drill for core activation, give your abdominals a little workout.
What we’re going to have Brie do is force her hands down into the ground. This is the pattern assistance portion. This is forcing her to wake up and engage throughout her abdominal region. And then from here, we’re going to stay engaged and we’re going to slowly, one at a time, lift those legs up.
Now we’re going to keep a straight leg raise. Some of us might be a little tighter in our hamstrings. I want to focus on keeping the legs straight. If you can only go up to about 45 degrees or so, that’s fine.
The whole time we want to stay engaged into the ground. Keep yourself active here, giving you some pattern assistance, back and forth, nice and slow. We want to go nice and slow on this. We’re trying to teach your brain how to flex properly throughout your hips. Good abdominal work as well. 10 to 15 of these, both sides.
